If you were to ask any Rare fan what game they would most want to see from Rare, the most common answer would likey be Killer Instinct. After that, however, you would probably hear Banjo-Kazooie, and while it may be a while before a new Killer Instinct shows up on the 360, Banjo is right around the corner.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts finds Banjo and Grunty locked in a bitter dispute over the fate of Spiral Mountain. Tired of the two adversaries’ constant bickering, the Lord of the Games (LOG) shows up and proposes a challenge to decide the mountain’s rightful owner.
LOG claims to have created every game ever created and transports both to Showdown Town. There he introduces Banjo and Grunty to a set of special worlds to serve as the proving grounds for his challenges.
Showdown Town serves as the main hub for Banjo’s adventures. Each of LOG’s challenges will point you in a particular direction, but how you complete it is up to you. The method for unlocking new areas is similar to past games, though instead of learning new moves you’ll have to upgrade your vehicle to meet specific challenges. For example, if you need to get up a steep incline you’ll first have to find a motor with a little more pull or tires with better traction.
There are over 100 parts to choose from and include everything from new motors to wheels, wings, propellers and even a few not-so-typical gadgets. The number of combinations is limitless, so if you can imagine it, you can build it. Once you’ve built your vehicle, you can add body panels, paint and name it before taking it out on the road. Think of it as American Chopper, but without Paul, Sr. yelling at you to get things done. A set of pre-built vehicles are included so players who would rather skip the workshop can jump right into the action.
As a special treat, players who missed out on Banjo’s earlier adventures will have a chance to get acquainted with the series later this year when the original Banjo-Kazooie is released on XBLA. |
